I gave a fav teacher of mine a scarf to wear outside in the winter,and he did use it.If you don`t live where it`s cold,surely it rains and an umbrella might be appreciated.Something practical,yet not too personal.A letter opener or paperweight with their first initial.My mom has a fav brass paperweight that is of her first initial.
maybe a watch.. but not like a really expensive one that would be better than one his wife would give him. if not then a barnes and noble gift card- hes an english teacher he'd love that
If you can make cookies homeade, or some different dessert treats like little lemon tarts, or buy them and put them in a cute container with a thank you card saying something like for Mr. and Mrs blah blah.

I gave my male teacher chocolates. The Godiva kind. And not in a heart-shaped box or anything. Ahahaha.
